Power BI Reporting

Job Title: Power BI Developer 

Rate: £400 per day

Engagement: Contract, Outside IR35

Overview

We are seeking a Power BI Reporting specialist to design, build, and maintain insightful dashboards and reports that support operational and strategic decision-making. You will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business needs into data solutions, and ensure reporting outputs are accurate, performant, and easy to interpret.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and datasets aligned to business requirements.
• Gather, document, and refine reporting requirements with stakeholders, including defining KPIs and measures.
• Model data using star-schema principles and create robust DAX measures and calculated columns.
• Build and optimise Power Query transformations and reusable dataflows where appropriate.
• Implement and manage Row-Level Security (RLS) and adhere to data governance and access controls.
• Monitor and improve report performance, refresh schedules, and capacity considerations.
• Ensure data quality through validation, reconciliation, and clear documentation.
• Support users with training, guidance, and adoption of self-service reporting.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience delivering Power BI reporting solutions end-to-end in a professional environment.
• Strong knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M), data modelling, and visual design best practice.
• Experience integrating data from SQL databases and other sources (e.g., Excel, SharePoint, APIs).
• Solid SQL skills for querying, joining, and validating data.
• Experience with publishing, workspace management, app distribution, and refresh configuration in the Power BI Service.
• Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Understanding of information security, data privacy, and least-privilege access.

Desirable

• Exposure to Azure data services (e.g., Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse) and modern data platforms.
• Experience with version control and deployment approaches for Power BI artefacts.
