Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

DEI should be the cornerstone of any recruitment strategy. As recruiters, we have an important part to play in promoting diversity by implementing fair and inclusive recruitment processes.

With our own dedicated DEI Committee, we have a commitment to driving and improving DEI strategy. This includes working with hiring organisations on their own diversity initiatives, leading discussions through our events and advising on how to make a hiring processes more accessible and accommodating. We are proud to be a founding company of Programme One in the UK, with an aim to increasing more Black recruiters to join the recruitment industry.

Diversity, equity & inclusion: Why it matters for businesses

An organisation with a diverse workforce has shown to improve productivity, creativity and innovation, leading to better success of a company, its employees and partnerships.

In the UK, there are several policies and initiatives for protection against discrimination, such as the Equality Act 2010. Although, DEI should go further than just legal compliance.

By organisations incorporating DEI strategies towards initiatives, improvements, employee wellbeing policies and regular training can effectively build a positive workplace experience for all.

In this video our DEI Committee Ambassadors talk about the importance of DEI in the workplace.

Our DEI Offerings

Background Image

We hold our leaders accountable for implementing our organisations DEI vision, by setting standards, driving initiatives, and being role models. We do this by ensuring our leaders are trained and feel knowledgeable enough to have conversations about DEI with our employees, candidates, and clients. We are committed to advancing an inclusive culture and creating a better, equitable working world for everyone.

Our DEI vision statement is “To be recognised by our clients, candidates, and staff as a leader within Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through positive action in reducing bias. Our aim is to make a difference to the working world by supporting our clients, providing clear advice on DEI recruitment processes, and encouraging allyship across all our networks.”

Our ongoing DEI mission is to ensure that DEI principles are integrated into all areas of our attraction, sourcing, and recruitment processes, as well as talent performance/management, advancement, and retention strategies. We conduct competency-based interviews to assess candidates based on qualities such as hard work, motivation, competitiveness, and resilience. Our job descriptions have been reviewed and amended to eliminate gender bias using tools like the Gender Decoder website.  During the internal interview process, we educate potential employees and candidates on the importance of DEI. Our Workshop and Interview Days (i.e. assessment centres) also include a section on DEI and its importance internally and externally.

Our DEI committee

The Gravitas Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee is a diverse group of people, passionate about DEI and driving initiatives within the organisation.

“I want to be a part of the change that is happening around us. Being part of TA allows me to really show my passion for people and being part of the LGBTQ+ community has meant I want to ensure everyone can be recognised for their potential contribution.“

Ryan Sullivan, Talent Acquisition Associate Director and DEI Committee Member.

Programme One

In 2020, we were thrilled to launch Programme One. As a co-founder, with seven other agencies, we all shared the same vision, to deliver an impactful programme to improve the underrepresentation of Black talent in the recruitment industry.

The programme provides Black recruiters with access to a 12-month mentorship scheme.

  1. Every Black recruiter a part of Programme One will receive a mentor to help them develop their recruitment career and learn from the experiences of their mentor.
  2. Each agency in partnership with Programme One will provide two mentors. Each mentor will take responsibility to be a positive role model to a Black recruiter part of the scheme.

Learn more about our commitment to Programme One.
