This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing analytical function dedicated to assessing and managing marine catastrophe risk across various insurance classes including cargo, ports and terminals. This permanent position offers a competitive salary of £70,000 per annum, plus additional performance-related bonuses.
As a Senior Catastrophe Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in producing, interpreting, and presenting detailed catastrophe risk analytics to support underwriters and senior management. You will work closely with multiple stakeholders across the business, including Actuarial, Claims, Operations, and Underwriting, and be expected to provide specialist insight into both natural catastrophe and man-made risks affecting marine classes. Your strong analytical and coding skills will be essential in delivering automated, efficient modelling solutions and data pipelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run and interpret model outputs from industry standard catastrophe models, notably Touchstone Marine, ensuring high-quality inputs and outputs.
- Collaborate with underwriting teams to assess risk exposures, improve accumulation control, and provide tailored portfolio insights.
- Support the development of pricing tools and automation scripts using SQL, and preferably R, Python, or VBA.
- Coordinate and contribute to cross-functional projects with Actuarial, Claims, Operations, and Risk Intelligence teams to improve portfolio analytics and reporting.
- Maintain and improve workflows involving exposure aggregation and reconciliation across marine lines.
- Support external regulatory and reinsurance submissions through accurate catastrophe data provision and analysis.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience using third party catastrophe models/aggregation tools, ideally across natural catastrophe and man-made marine direct insurance classes.
- Familiarity with Touchstone Marine, particularly in relation to cargo, ports and terminals.
- Strong technical coding ability; proficiency in SQL is essential, with working knowledge of R, Python, or VBA desirable.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple classes of business with exposure to model calibration or validation activities.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple insurance functions including Actuarial, Claims, Operations, and Risk Intelligence.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure whilst managing competing priorities.
