A really exciting opportunity has arisen within a growing and unique syndicate, situated in the heart of the City of London. We are seeking a highly skilled and commercially astute Portfolio Manager to join this expanding team within the specialty insurance sector. This is a pivotal role that involves managing and driving portfolio performance, ensuring underwriting discipline and strategic delivery across a diverse book of specialty insurance risks.
As Portfolio Manager, you will collaborate with underwriters, actuaries and analysts to monitor, evaluate and optimise underwriting performance. You will be responsible for providing strategic portfolio insights, developing analytics that support informed underwriting decisions, and working closely with senior stakeholders to align performance with business objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in portfolio management within the Lloyd’s or broader (re)insurance market, particularly within specialty lines. You will possess a deep understanding of insurance concepts, multi-class portfolio dynamics, and a proactive approach to data-driven decision making.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Analysing and monitoring business performance across multiple specialty classes.
- Developing and enhancing portfolio analytics and reporting frameworks.
- Maintaining underwriting discipline through support and challenge of underwriting teams.
- Delivering forward-looking insights to influence underwriting strategy and capacity allocation.
- Collaborating with pricing, actuarial, exposure management and finance teams to ensure cohesive portfolio oversight.
- Contributing to strategic planning and supporting business growth initiatives.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in portfolio management or related analytical role within the insurance industry (Lloyd’s market experience preferred).
- In-depth understanding of specialty insurance products, pricing methodologies, and market dynamics.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and drive actionable outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data visualisation and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Strong project management and problem-solving capabilities.
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Economics.
This position offers a competitive salary between £90,000 to £110,000 per year, dependent on experience, along with an excellent bonus scheme and comprehensive benefits package.
