Lead Data Engineer- London (3 days/week on‑site)- Up to 90k (DOE)
One of my key clients in the Green-Energy sector are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to become the hands‑on technical lead across both geospatial and business data. This is a rare opportunity to shape a team, rebuild a platform, and set the direction for a modern data environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership
- Act as the hands‑on technical lead for all data engineering
- Build end‑to‑end pipelines: ingestion → transformation → reporting (Power BI)
- Work with both geospatial and business data
- Bring structure, clarity, and best practice to a team that is resetting
Team & Culture
- Help stabilise and rebuild a fragmented team
- Mentor and develop engineers (line management optional initially)
- Influence future hiring across profiles, skills, and team structure
- Business Engagement
- Partner with stakeholders and explain data concepts in clear, accessible language
- Help the organisation understand what’s possible with their data
Key Projects
- Microsoft Fabric (Early Stage)
- Specialist consultants will support — Fabric experience is not required
- The role will influence design and direction
- Rebuilding the Entire Data Suite
- Opportunity to reinvent the dashboards, data models, reporting, and overall data flows
- Work closely aligned to the Fabric transition
What They’re Looking For
- Strong Data Engineering background at senior/lead level
- Deep understanding of pipelines end‑to‑end: getting data in, transforming it, and surfacing it
- Broad knowledge of modern data architectures
- Someone others can learn through — a technical authority
- Excellent communicator with the ability to simplify complex data ideas
- Positive, mentoring mindset suited to a team undergoing change
- Comfortable in a scale‑up environment with a 3‑day in‑office culture
