We are seeking a dynamic and pragmatic individual to lead business change and improvement within a fast-paced and rapidly evolving transport organisation based in Lancashire. With a salary of £80,000, this role carries a Director title but functions as a hands-on Head-of position, embedded within both delivery teams and strategic decision-making circles.
Focused on solving tangible business problems, you will be expected to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities early and act decisively without waiting for perfect planning conditions. You'll champion a fail-fast mentality, cut through noise, and prioritise initiatives based on effort versus reward. This position is best suited to someone who thrives in ambiguity, operates effectively in constantly changing environments, and delivers meaningful outcomes without relying on traditional programme management structures or rigid governance frameworks.
Our client values delivery over documentation, and momentum over perfection. There’s no PMO, no long-range delivery plans, and no reliance on programme managers—success comes from good judgement, honest feedback, and the ability to course-correct rapidly. You must be comfortable deprioritising or reshaping work already in flight in favour of higher-value opportunities, and able to challenge stakeholders diplomatically when something no longer delivers return.
The organisation is scaling quickly via acquisition and regular new product releases, making the operating environment one of constant integration and transition. The right candidate will sit at the heart of change, improvement, and operational delivery—supporting teams to absorb new capabilities, maintain momentum, and keep sight of priorities despite constant flux.
While structure and planning are necessary, they must be applied thoughtfully and only where they materially add value. You will be expected to manage dependencies, evaluate risks, and ensure that cross-functional conversations are coordinated effectively—without the need for heavyweight hierarchies or fixed roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional change initiatives across a dynamic and growing transport organisation.
- Quickly evaluate business challenges and opportunities, driving action to deliver measurable improvements.
- Champion a lean, agile approach to change by applying structure only where necessary and adjusting quickly as circumstances evolve.
- Maintain delivery momentum by empowering teams, managing stakeholders effectively, and helping filter signal from noise.
- Support the integration of newly acquired businesses, teams and products into the wider organisation.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in a senior change, transformation, or operational improvement role, ideally within a complex or fast-moving environment.
- Exceptional ability to lead pragmatically in ambiguous settings—balancing strategy with direct delivery involvement.
- Strong commercial acumen and the capability to spot and act on both risks and opportunities across the business.
- Comfortable challenging assumptions, pushing back on low-value initiatives, and reallocating resources to high-yield activity.
- Experience delivering change in a high-growth, integration-heavy environment is highly desirable, particularly in transport or infrastructure-related industries.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence at all organisational levels.
This is a unique opportunity for an adaptable and driven professional to make a real impact in a business that refuses to sit still. If you are energised by complexity, enjoy working close to delivery, and have a passion for creating lasting operational value, we would love to hear from you.
