Job Title: Head of IT Operations
Location: Barnsley with occasional travel to Rotherham and Wakefield

Salary: £65,000 + £6k mobility allowance
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Head of IT Operations to lead the delivery, resilience, and security of core technology services. This senior leadership role is critical to ensuring stable, efficient, and secure IT operations across a multi-site environment, while supporting the organisation’s wider technology strategy and transformation initiatives.
You’ll oversee infrastructure, networks, cloud platforms, and end-user computing, ensuring high availability and performance. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll drive operational excellence, manage vendors, and lead a high-performing IT team to deliver scalable and secure technology services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all IT operational services, including infrastructure, networks, cloud platforms, and end-user computing.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and incident management.
- Oversee IT support operations to deliver consistent service levels and effective issue resolution.
- Develop, implement, and enforce IT policies, standards, and operational procedures.
- Plan and deliver IT projects in collaboration with senior stakeholders and suppliers.
- Manage key vendors and third-party providers, including contracts, performance, and escalations.
- Contribute to IT budget planning, cost control, and resource management.
- Lead, coach, and develop the IT operations team, promoting a high-performance culture.
- Drive continuous improvement across systems, processes, and service delivery.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, asset registers, and change records.
- Support and contribute to the organisation’s IT strategy and technology roadmap.
Technical Environment
- Infrastructure: Enterprise-scale IT systems, multi-site environments
- Networking: Ethernet, routing, firewalls, enterprise Wi-Fi
- Cloud: Microsoft 365 E5, virtualisation (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V)
- Security: Fortinet solutions
- Storage: HPE infrastructure, SAN architectures
- Databases: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server
- ERP: Manufacturing/production ERP systems
- Other: IBM Power Systems and AIX
Ideal Experience
- Proven leadership experience in IT operations within an enterprise or multi-site organisation.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure, networking, and cloud technologies.
- Experience managing vendors, budgets, and 24/7 operational services.
- Familiarity with ITIL or similar service frameworks.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus:
- WAN technologies and carrier-level networking (e.g., BT/Openreach).
- Experience with ERP systems in manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to IBM Power Systems and AIX.
