Head of Statutory Returns | £63k - £73k |London | SITS | HESA
We are thrilled to be partnering with a client who is in the market for a Head of Statutory Returns to lead their quality & timely HESA returns and the continual improvement of that process. You will be responsible for the development and the day-to-day line management of the dedicated Statutory Returns team as well as strategic decision-making relevant to the statutory returns.
The Role
Reporting to the registrar; you will be responsible for the strategic leadership, development and mentoring of the Statutory returns team making sure that all required Statutory Returns are compliant and of a high quality.
The role will involve working closely with the Audit Committee, Data Governance and an Executive team who understand the importance of data; to report progress, actions and overall risks to ensure Statutory Reporting is moving forward. This role would provide the successful candidate with the autonomy and level of control they need to ensure key decisions are backed with data. You would be pushing against an open door when It comes to advising and changing the way things are done if the process/sectoral insight has been discovered. You will have strong stakeholder management skill sets, and an experienced representative of an institution to relevant third parties with demonstrable technical background and approach to student data.
You will be the “face” of student data within the organisation whereby attending events and meetings with industry bodies to enhance your understanding and review current processes to ensure implications of new models are reviewed. The successful candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge on student data quality, end-to-end management of statutory returns and the ability to break down technical information to non-technical users.

Employment Type: Permanent
Location: Hybrid | London | 2-3 days a week
Salary: £63,000 - £73,000
Benefits: 30 days Annual leave allowance (+ university’s closure days) + USS Pension,
What we need to see (Essential):
- Significant exposure to student record systems
- Up-to-date knowledge of statutory reporting (HESA)
- Takes a self-starter approach
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Line management experience
What we would like to see (Desirable):
- Experience working with Tribal SITS
- Experience working with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) to extract, transform and load data
- Championing the importance of accurate student data to colleagues/departments to improve data quality & providing training internally on data literacy
