Senior QA Engineer
London (Edgware Road) – Hybrid (3 days in office: Mon/Tues/Thurs)
£50,000–£70,000 + benefits
We’re partnering with a fast‑growing tech company in London who are looking for a Senior QA Engineer to take full ownership of testing across their platform.
This is the first dedicated QA hire, so it’s a genuinely influential role: you’ll be hands‑on with testing day‑to‑day, while also defining the overall QA strategy, tooling and processes as the business scales.
The opportunity
- Own QA for the entire product – from strategy through to day‑to‑day execution
- Be the go‑to person for quality in a growing engineering team
- Work closely with engineering leadership to shape how the team builds and ships software
- Start with a 50/50 split of manual vs automation, with a clear plan to increase automation over time
- Help a fast‑moving product team deliver more reliably, with fewer production issues
What you’ll be doing
- Define and implement the overall QA strategy: test approach, coverage, environments and pipelines
- Take responsibility for end‑to‑end testing of a complex web platform – from UI to APIs
- Design, write and maintain automated tests (primarily using Playwright and Cucumber)
- Perform manual functional, regression and exploratory testing on new and existing features
- Build and evolve test suites that integrate into CI/CD, catching issues as early as possible
- Work closely with engineers and product to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria
- Champion quality across the team – coaching developers on best practices and helping improve how they test their own work
- Help select and introduce new tools and approaches where they add real value
What we’re looking for
- Solid experience as a QA / Test Engineer working on web‑based products (not just mobile apps)
- A track record of owning or heavily shaping QA strategy for a product or team
- Strong experience with:
- Playwright for browser automation
- Cucumber / Gherkin (or very similar BDD tools)
- End‑to‑end testing of complex user journeys
- API testing (e.g. using Postman, REST-assured or similar)
- Comfortable doing manual testing as well as building automation – especially early on
- Able to talk clearly about how you’ve improved process, quality and reliability, not just which tools you’ve used
- Strong communication skills: able to work closely with engineers, product and stakeholders, and willing to push for the right level of quality
Why this role?
- Impact – you’ll be the person who defines what “good” looks like for QA in this company
- Ownership – real autonomy to shape strategy, tools and processes
- Growth – opportunity to influence how the engineering team evolves and, over time, to help build out a broader QA function if the business case is proven
- Environment – modern tech, collaborative culture, and a product used by well‑known brands
