We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Underwriter to form a key part of a leading third-party provider’s Underwriting Team. The successful candidate will have experience in multiline P&C underwriting and will be responsible for growing the portfolio with key brokers and clients, while maintaining and developing a portfolio of existing accounts. This role can be based in either the Leeds or Manchester office.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:

Underwrite new business and renewals according to defined underwriting guidelines, budget, and the local business plan.

Represent and promote the company to brokers, internal stakeholders, and external clients.

Service key producers and clients through a proactive program of external visits, business acquisition and retention monitoring, and by maximizing cross-selling opportunities.

Assist in formulating and implementing underwriting strategy, forecasts, and portfolio management to achieve underwriting profitability. Ensure quality control within your area of responsibility.

Contribute to the development of products within specialist areas to improve client retention and attract new business, potentially collaborating with peers across regional and global business lines.

Meet company standards regarding policy documentation, timeframes for quoting new and renewal business, and compliance requirements.

Manage junior colleagues while providing mentoring, training, and coaching where appropriate to help ensure a high-quality underwriting team.

Allocate resources effectively to meet business objectives.
Qualifications

Considerable market experience.

ACII qualification preferred.

Demonstrates ongoing development of technical and broader business skills.

Strong understanding and working knowledge of corporate underwriting, the insurance market, and competitors.

Solid experience in dealing with brokers and clients.

Results-driven, with the ability to make independent decisions and work on own initiative.

Recognized externally as an experienced insurance professional.

Experience in leadership, training, mentoring, and people development is preferred, though not essential.
