Software Engineer (Full-Stack / Backend)

Location: On-site, 5 days per week (Paddington)
Team: Engineering
Reports to: Co-Founder & CTO

About the Company

We’re building modern infrastructure to power operations and payments in a complex, regulated industry. Our mission is to transform how service providers manage their workflows, payments, and customer experiences. The team values speed, craftsmanship, and impact — building systems that scale and deliver real value.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and technically confident Software Engineer to help build and scale our core systems. You’ll own major pieces of work end-to-end — from architecture to production deployment — and collaborate closely with product and commercial teams to deliver meaningful outcomes for users.

This role suits someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives in fast-paced environments, and takes pride in building clean, maintainable systems that move the business forward.

What You’ll Do

  • Build reliable, scalable systems — design and develop backend-heavy infrastructure powering complex integrations, workflows, and internal tooling.

  • Own blocks of work — take large, undefined problems from idea to deployed product, making smart decisions and delivering high-quality solutions.

  • Collaborate deeply — work hand-in-hand with product and commercial teams to shape features, understand users, and influence product direction.

  • Champion engineering quality — bring strong principles, write clean and maintainable code, and continuously improve our engineering practices.

  • Move quickly without cutting corners — balance speed with technical rigour to deliver systems that last.

Who You Are

  • Experienced and technically confident — 2–3+ years building production-grade systems in fast-moving environments.

  • Self-directed and execution-focused — comfortable owning workstreams, scoping solutions, and delivering without heavy oversight.

  • Full-stack (or backend-leaning) — confident working across services, APIs, and infrastructure; comfortable making architectural decisions and integrating external systems.

  • Product-minded — you care about outcomes, not just code; you ask why, not just what.

  • Quality-driven — you balance speed with technical depth, knowing when to be scrappy and when to invest.

  • Growth-oriented — always looking to improve your craft, explore new tools, and drive better ways of working.

  • Team player — eager to contribute beyond your role — from engineering culture to product strategy.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity — thrive in dynamic environments where priorities evolve, and unafraid to challenge ideas or iterate fast.

The Interview Process

  1. Intro Call (CTO) — 15–20 minutes: Discuss your background, ambitions, and fit with the team.

  2. Intro Call (CEO) — 15–20 minutes: Dive deeper into your experiences and motivations.

  3. Take-Home Coding Test — 2–3 hours: Demonstrate how you approach problems and write production-ready code.

  4. On-Site Interviews — ~2 hours: Review your coding submission, design a new system, meet the team, and explore the product hands-on.

  5. Final Chat with Founders — ~1 hour: A final discussion to ensure mutual fit and alignment.

Why Join

  • Work directly with company founders and shape the product from the ground up.

  • Build systems that solve meaningful, real-world problems.

  • Join a collaborative, ambitious, and supportive team.

  • [Optional: Add perks like stock options, flexible hours, learning budget, etc.]
