We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced US Professions Underwriter to join our London-based team. This position involves underwriting and managing a diversified portfolio of US-based professional indemnity risks, ensuring sound risk selection, pricing, and compliance with underwriting guidelines. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of the US professions liability market, combined with the analytical and technical skills needed to assess and monitor complex risk profiles. While the role is based in London, a familiarity with the regulatory, legal, and economic landscape of the US is essential.
Key responsibilities include the assessment and underwriting of new and renewal business across various professional lines including legal, accounting, consulting, and other advisory services. You will work closely with brokers and other stakeholders to maintain and grow a profitable underwriting portfolio. The ability to interpret actuarial, financial, and trend data for informed decision-making, as well as to document underwriting actions thoroughly and in line with compliance standards, is required.
Applicants must have a proven track record within the US professions insurance sector, ideally with a minimum of five years’ underwriting experience. A deep understanding of underwriting methodology, pricing structures, and claims analysis is essential. Proficiency in underwriting systems and software tools is required, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should be capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams including actuarial, claims, and legal departments.
Strong organisational and time management skills are necessary to manage multiple accounts, meet submission deadlines, and handle broker relationships efficiently. The role may involve occasional travel to the US for broker engagement or market development. Professional qualifications such as ACII, CPCU, or similar will be considered advantageous, though not mandatory.
