We are seeking an experienced Java Engineer to join a high-performing software development team working on an exciting cloud migration project. This is a contract role offering a competitive daily rate of £550 - £630 (Inside IR35) and is based in Central London with a hybrid working model (2 days per week onsite).
As a Java Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and supporting backend services as part of a large-scale migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will play a key role in ensuring the successful transition of systems to the cloud, while maintaining a high level of performance, security and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Java development and experience working with cloud technologies, particularly GCP. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain high-quality Java code for backend services.
- Contribute to the design and architecture of cloud-based systems on GCP.
- Participate in agile development workflows and team ceremonies.
- Work collaboratively with DevOps and infrastructure engineers to ensure secure and scalable deployment of services.
- Provide expert input on best practices for cloud migration and distributed systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across development, test and production environments.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong experience in Java development (Java 8 or later).
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.
- Proficiency in building RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
- Understanding of cloud-native development and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
