Infrastructure Manager

The Infrastructure Manager oversees the operational delivery of IT infrastructure services within a local government context. The role involves leading technical teams and ensuring the stability, security, and resilience of both cloud-based and on-premise environments. This position contributes to maintaining reliable services aligned with government standards.

Role Overview
The Infrastructure Manager reports to the Head of Live Operations and manages a team of four Technical Engineers. The role is responsible for coordinating incident management, operational change, and supplier support activities. Success is measured by maintaining service availability and managing complex escalations effectively within a hybrid working environment.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Lead and manage a team of four Technical Engineers
  • Own day-to-day infrastructure operations and service availability
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex issues
  • Coordinate major incidents and problem management
  • Oversee operational change, patching, and vulnerability remediation
  • Manage backup, recovery, and service continuity activities
  • Coordinate third-party suppliers including managed services and SOC providers
  • Support transition of new services into live operation
  • Provide operational updates and risk advice to senior management
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Cisco networking, Palo Alto firewalls, Veeam, enterprise storage, end-user computing, and Microsoft Teams telephony
  • Several years leading infrastructure or IT operations teams
  • Strong hands-on Microsoft infrastructure experience across cloud and on-premise environments
  • Experience managing major incidents and technical escalations
  • Good understanding of ITIL service management
  • Experience managing suppliers and outsourced support partners
  • Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Microsoft certifications
  • Experience within local government or the public sector
  • Experience with Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001
  • PowerShell or scripting knowledge

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Experience managing infrastructure or IT operations teams
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Cisco networking, Palo Alto firewalls, Veeam, enterprise storage, end-user computing, and Microsoft Teams telephony
  • Able to work on-site in Sheffield
  • Must be available to start on 17/07/2026 for a 2-week contract
