Interim Data Analyst (Power BI / SQL / SSRS)

Contract: Interim / Fixed-Term Contract
Duration: Initial 6 months
Day Rate: £500 to £600 per day (dependent on experience and IR35 determination)
Location: Remote-first, with approximately one week on-site at the start for induction
Working Pattern: Full-time preferred (5 days per week), with 4 days considered for the right candidate
Equipment: Laptop provided

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join a busy data and reporting team on an interim basis. This role is a backfill position supporting a well-established reporting function and requires someone who can quickly become productive, manage a varied reporting workload, and deliver high-quality outputs at pace.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on analyst with strong Power BI, SQL and SSRS experience who enjoys solving data challenges and responding to business reporting needs in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance reports and dashboards using Power BI
  • Write and optimise complex SQL queries to support reporting and analysis requirements
  • Maintain and update existing SSRS reports, including:
    • Report amendments and enhancements
    • Additional data fields and columns
    • Subscription management
    • Troubleshooting and issue resolution
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting and analytical requests from across the business
  • Support reporting activities across a central data warehouse environment
  • Work with data from multiple sources including operational systems, Dataverse and Excel-based datasets
  • Contribute to ongoing reporting improvements and transformation initiatives
  • Support or contribute to the evolution of reporting solutions within Microsoft Fabric where appropriate

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven commercial experience developing solutions in Power BI
  • Strong SQL skills, including advanced query writing and optimisation
  • Experience working with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Ability to work independently and deliver outputs quickly with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working within complex reporting environments and data warehouses

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience working within the housing sector or a similar regulated environment
  • Knowledge of Dataverse and cloud-based data platforms
  • Experience supporting reporting transformation or migration projects

Technical Environment

The reporting landscape is centred around a large data warehouse, which supports the majority of reporting requirements. Additional data sources include:

  • Housing management and operational systems
  • Microsoft Dataverse
  • Microsoft Fabric
  • Excel-based and ad hoc data sources

What We're Looking For

This role will suit a contractor who can hit the ground running and add value from day one. The focus is on delivery, productivity and technical capability rather than extensive stakeholder management. You'll be comfortable handling a steady stream of reporting requests and adapting quickly to changing priorities.

Candidates with Microsoft Fabric experience may have the opportunity to support wider adoption of the platform and help develop internal capability. Equally, candidates with stronger traditional Power BI and SQL Server backgrounds will be well suited to supporting the core reporting estate.

Contract Details

  • Initial term of up to 6 months
  • 28-day notice period
  • Remote-first working model
  • Potential for extension depending on business requirements
  • IR35 status currently under review and subject to formal assessment
