Salary: £45,000

We’re working with a tech-led business that’s looking for a hands-on Mid-level PHP Developer to join their team on a contract basis. This is a high-impact role focused on modernising legacy infrastructure, building scalable backend systems, and contributing to architectural direction.

You’ll be working in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment, tackling critical backend services and integrating third-party platforms. The team values clean code, pragmatic engineering, and collaborative problem-solving.

Ideal Experience

  • Extensive hands-on PHP experience, with deep Laravel expertise
  • Strong grasp of software engineering principles and lifecycle best practices
  • Confident with CLI tools, shell environments, and developer automation workflows
  • Solid experience with relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL) and query optimisation
  • Proven ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-based environments
  • Strong version control knowledge – Git, branching strategies, and release management

Bonus Skills

  • Experience migrating legacy applications and refactoring outdated codebases
  • Familiarity with microservices and distributed system patterns
  • Proficiency in procedural SQL (e.g. PL/SQL, T-SQL, MySQL stored procedures)
  • Exposure to ACCELL/SQL (4GL)
  • Unix or AIX shell scripting experience
  • Working knowledge of frontend integration: JavaScript, jQuery, XML, Apache, Nginx

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain high-performance, business-critical web applications
  • Design and implement scalable, maintainable backend architectures
  • Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and third-party services
  • Lead by example with clean, well-tested code and sound engineering practices
  • Actively contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making

If you’re excited by the idea of building modern software in a collaborative environment, we’d love to hear from you. Interviews are already underway, so if you're interested, please apply with an up-to-date CV.
