Engineering Manager – Feature Engineering

Location: Remote, Europe — you must be based within one hour of Irish time (GMT/IST). We can employ in the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland.
Salary: €75,000 – €85,000
Engagement: Employed via an Employer of Record. B2B and freelance contracting are not available for this role.

About the company

Our client is a construction tech business building software that connects project planning with day-to-day execution on site, giving planners, operators and leadership a single source of truth across complex projects.

The product is used by large, enterprise-grade contractors delivering complex construction, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and infrastructure projects. The business is scaling into new markets, and the bar for engineering quality is scaling with it.

The role

A hands-on leadership role. You'll split your time between coding, driving technical direction, and growing your team. You'll report to the Head of Engineering and partner closely with the Platform & DevOps EM, Product, Design and QA to plan, build and ship product features.

You'll own end-to-end feature delivery across backend, frontend and mobile — setting engineering standards, making pragmatic architecture decisions, and making sure your team ships reliable, well-tested software at a sustainable pace.

Scope

  • Reports to: Head of Engineering
  • Scope: Feature Engineering team — you'll help shape, grow and lead it
  • Direct reports: 3–5 engineers (backend, frontend, mobile) as the team scales

Key responsibilities

Feature delivery and technical leadership

  • Own end-to-end delivery of product features across backend APIs (.NET Core / C#) and frontend (Angular), from design through to production
  • Set and enforce engineering standards across the team: code quality, test coverage, API design, branching and review practices, release readiness
  • Drive architecture decisions at feature scope — data modelling, service boundaries, API contracts, caching strategies
  • Debug across the full stack, lead incident resolution, and run blameless post-mortems that produce lasting fixes
  • Ensure features are built for performance, scalability and reliability, meeting the NFR standards defined by the Platform team

Quality, testing and non-functional requirements

  • Champion a test-first culture — unit, integration and E2E coverage as part of the definition of done, not an afterthought
  • Partner with the Platform EM to uphold platform-defined NFR standards across performance, observability, security and compliance
  • Embed security-by-design into feature development: input validation, auth enforcement, dependency hygiene, sensitive data handling

People leadership and delivery

  • Build the team: lead hiring end-to-end, run structured interviews, make sound hiring decisions, onboard engineers effectively in a startup environment
  • Run regular 1:1s, give timely and honest feedback, support career growth across all seniority levels
  • Manage performance actively — recognise strong contributors, address issues early, build a high-trust, high-accountability culture
  • Own delivery against roadmap commitments: sprint planning, estimation, risk management, and clear communication of progress and blockers

Cross-functional partnership

  • Partner with Product and Design to refine requirements, push back on scope where appropriate, and translate priorities into well-defined engineering work
  • Collaborate with the Platform EM to consume platform services effectively and surface feature team needs that should become platform capabilities
  • Contribute to engineering-wide decisions on process, tooling, coding practices and culture alongside peer Engineering Managers
  • Represent the engineering perspective in cross-functional planning, giving realistic estimates and flagging delivery risk early

What we're looking for

Required

  • 7–10 years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time building and shipping product features across the full stack
  • Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core (C#) and Angular — you can review, write and reason about code in both
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL or SQL Server) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB or similar), including data modelling for scale
  • Prior experience leading or managing a team of engineers, including hiring, performance management and career development
  • Proven track record of delivering product features reliably, with strong ownership of quality, testing and release readiness
  • Security-aware engineering mindset — input validation, auth and dependency hygiene treated as fundamentals
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in a startup or scale-up where processes are still being built

Nice to have

  • Experience in construction tech, proptech, or other asset-heavy or field-operations verticals
  • Mobile development experience on iOS and/or Android
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and CI/CD tooling at feature team level
  • Experience in organisations with a dedicated platform or infrastructure function

How to apply

The country list is my best guess at a workable set — confirm it against the client's actual EOR coverage before it goes live, since shortlisting someone in a country the provider isn't registered in is the expensive version of this mistake.
