We are currently seeking an experienced Desktop Engineer to join a remote team working on a legacy debt improvement project for a non-for-profit organisation. This position plays a key role in Phase 1 of the project, which is focused on discovery, analysis, and strategic planning with the eventual goal of removing upwards of 10% of all legacy debt. This initial phase will lay the foundation for subsequent phases of the project by identifying quick wins, designing long-term solutions, and supporting systems modernisation.
The Engineer will collaborate closely with the Technical Architect and Project Manager to assess and upgrade legacy systems across the organisation's core IT estate, including but not limited to servers, networking components and the ServiceNow platform. A significant component of the role involves understanding and working with legacy Windows systems, as old as Windows 2003.

Rate: £250 per day
IR35: Outside IR35

Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in desktop support and engineering
- Strong understanding of hardware (especially laptops), software, applications, and security
- Comfortable working independently and proactively in a small team
- Ability to communicate clearly and ask the right questions to drive progress
- Familiarity with both legacy and modern technologies
- Experience with security software and managing technical debt
- Prior work in small organisations
- Ability to extract insights from older systems and contribute to tech clean-up
