Role Overview
The Data Engineering Manager will oversee a growing team of Data Engineers, shaping its structure, capability, and future direction. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders to promote data as a strategic asset, improving data quality, reliability, and accessibility. Success involves developing a strategic roadmap, establishing governance standards, and balancing operational delivery with long-term planning. The position entails approximately 20-30% hands-on work, with the remainder focused on leadership, strategy, and stakeholder engagement. The role operates within an Azure environment, with technologies including Databricks and Python.
Key Skills & Experience
- Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers
- Define and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Develop and deliver a roadmap of data initiatives and projects
- Establish best practice across data engineering and data management
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to communicate the value of data
- Drive improvements in data quality, reliability, and accessibility
- Support and evolve an Azure data platform using Databricks and Python

Requirements
- Right to work in the UK
- Experience leading Data Engineering teams
- Knowledge of Azure-based data platforms, Databricks, and Python
- Proven track record in establishing governance and operational standards
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business value
- Available for an initial 2-week period starting 21/07/2026
- Based on-site in Bradford with hybrid working arrangements
