Risk, Compliance & Control Recruitment

Behind every well-managed risk is the right team.

Risk, compliance and control professionals help insurers understand what they’re exposed to, how much risk they’re willing to take and whether the business is operating as it should. When the right people are in place, exposures are well understood, risk appetite is clearly set and controls give boards confidence that the business is meeting the expectations of the PRA, the FCA, Lloyd’s and its own governance framework.

Risk, compliance & control recruitment for insurers and syndicates

Each of our consultants focuses on one part of the insurance market, so the conversation starts from current, specialist knowledge the moment you brief us. That matters right now, as regulators look more closely at how insurers evidence risk, resilience and good customer outcomes, harder-to-model perils drive more catastrophe losses, and delegated authority brings new oversight demands.

We use that context to understand exactly what your role needs, whether that’s a risk manager strengthening your risk appetite framework and ORSA, a catastrophe modeller supporting your business plan, or a compliance lead embedding the Consumer Duty. We then look at how candidates have challenged and influenced the first line and evidenced decisions to regulators and boards. Where relevant, we also look at how they’ve applied data and modelling skills such as Python, R or vendor catastrophe models, with credentials such as IRM, ICA or CII adding useful context. The result is a shortlist that reflects both technical strength and the right fit for your team.

For Chief Risk Officer, Head of Compliance and Head of Exposure Management appointments, our expertise extends into executive search.

We recruit across risk, compliance and control, from analysts through to executive leadership and interim appointments:

  • Risk Management & Governance: enterprise risk managers, risk analysts, ORSA and risk appetite specialists, operational resilience leads, and Chief Risk Officers.
  • Catastrophe & Exposure Management: catastrophe modellers, exposure and accumulation analysts, and portfolio specialists who turn exposure data into underwriting and capital decisions.
  • Control & Compliance: compliance officers and managers, conduct and Consumer Duty specialists, regulatory reporting and controls professionals, and delegated authority oversight specialists.

We shape our support around what you need right now, no matter how your risk and compliance function is set up,

If you’re building or strengthening an in-house team at an insurer, Lloyd’s syndicate or MGA, our conversations focus on team structure, the balance between first- and second-line roles, and long-term fit. We’ll help you decide where permanent capability is needed and where contract support adds value. Regulatory remediation, model changes, new reporting requirements and periods of business planning are typical examples.

For consultancies supporting insurance clients, we keep things targeted on the technical expertise, client experience and availability your engagements require.

We offer contingency, retained and contract hiring, with IR35 considerations in mind for contract roles. See our permanent recruitment and contract hiring pages for more detail.

We support organisations where strong risk, exposure and compliance capability underpins underwriting and governance:

  • Lloyd’s syndicates and managing agents: risk, exposure and compliance roles supporting business planning and Lloyd’s oversight requirements.
  • London market insurers and reinsurers: specialty and reinsurance portfolios, where exposure management and catastrophe modelling guide underwriting strategy.
  • UK general insurers: personal and commercial lines, where compliance teams embed the Consumer Duty and risk teams support operational resilience.
  • MGAs, coverholders and insurtech: growing businesses building data-led risk, exposure and oversight capability to meet capacity provider expectations.
  • Consultancies and risk advisers: specialists supporting insurers with risk, catastrophe modelling and regulatory projects.

A specialist recruiter understands both the technical demands of risk, compliance and exposure roles and the regulatory context they operate in. The right professional strengthens how your business identifies, manages and evidences risk, so a well-matched hire has a lasting impact.

Our consultants explore what candidates have delivered in practice. That includes building risk frameworks, embedding regulatory change, developing exposure management processes and supporting regulatory reviews. We share up-to-date salary insight, day-rate trends and realistic availability, so you can plan with confidence. Our long-standing relationships reach professionals who aren’t actively looking or visible on job boards.

We work across permanent, fixed-term and contract hiring, and understand the context of Lloyd’s, the London market, UK general insurance and delegated authority. That knowledge shapes the brief, the search and the shortlist.

Risk, compliance and exposure hiring trends

Whether you’re hiring for risk management, catastrophe and exposure management or compliance, a few themes run through almost every brief we see.

Qualifications add useful context. IRM is well recognised in enterprise risk, ICA and CII support compliance careers, and CERA adds weight where risk and capital overlap. Practical experience usually counts for more, though, especially evidence of building frameworks and influencing decisions.

In catastrophe and exposure management, hands-on experience with vendor models from providers such as Moody’s RMS and Verisk is often essential, and strong SQL, Python or R skills are increasingly expected for working with large exposure datasets. That data focus is bringing catastrophe teams closer to data science, and insurtech businesses and MGAs often look for specialists who combine modelling expertise with modern analytics.

Regulatory knowledge underpins it all. Risk teams work with Solvency UK, the ORSA and operational resilience expectations, while compliance teams focus on the Consumer Duty, the Senior Managers and Certification Regime, and delegated authority oversight. In the London market, experience of Lloyd’s requirements is particularly valuable.

The professionals who make the biggest impact pair that technical depth with the confidence to challenge the business constructively, and that’s exactly what our consultants explore before anyone reaches your shortlist.

Pay across risk, compliance and control is shaped by specialism, seniority, sector and location. Senior risk leaders, experienced catastrophe modellers and compliance professionals with Lloyd’s or London market experience typically sit towards the upper end of the market, and London roles generally carry a premium.

As a guide, reported base salaries for compliance managers with risk management skills are:

  • UK-wide: typically around £30,000 to £69,000, with a median of around £44,000.
  • London: a median of around £62,000.

Risk managers, catastrophe and exposure specialists, and Heads of function are typically benchmarked individually, as pay depends heavily on portfolio, regulatory scope and seniority.

Contractors, often brought in for regulatory remediation, reporting changes or model updates and IR35 status can also affect the overall cost of a contract engagement. For tailored benchmarking by specialism and seniority, visit our benchmarking page.

AI and advanced analytics are becoming part of everyday risk, compliance and exposure work. In exposure management, machine learning helps clean and enrich data, improving the quality of catastrophe modelling inputs, while in compliance, automated tools support monitoring, case review and regulatory reporting, freeing teams to focus on judgement and oversight. Insurtech businesses are building these capabilities into their platforms from the start.

As AI spreads across the business, risk and compliance teams are also taking on a new role: overseeing how it’s used. Existing frameworks such as the Consumer Duty and the Senior Managers and Certification Regime still apply, so firms need to explain how AI-supported decisions are made, be clear on who is accountable, guard against unintended bias and keep the right documentation. UK GDPR applies wherever personal data is involved, and if you serve EU customers, the EU AI Act may also come into play.

For hiring managers, that broadens what to look for. The strongest candidates combine regulatory and risk expertise with enough data confidence to challenge model outputs and AI-supported processes. In interviews, it’s worth asking how candidates have overseen or used AI, how they assessed the risks and how they reported them to boards. Our consultants explore that experience in depth, helping you build a team ready to govern AI with confidence.

Climate risk is reshaping catastrophe and exposure management. Secondary perils such as wildfires, storms and floods drove a record 92% of global insured natural catastrophe losses in 2025, and exposure growth explains most of the long-term rise in weather-related losses. Insurers now need catastrophe modellers who can challenge and adjust vendor models, exposure managers who keep data accurate, and specialists comfortable with Python, R and large datasets, all within the PRA’s climate risk expectations. Our consultants help you find people who can turn that complexity into a clear, reliable view of risk.
