Overview

An established London Market insurer is expanding its UK Surety proposition and is seeking an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to support profitable portfolio growth across UK Contract and Commercial Surety.

You’ll join a collaborative Surety Underwriting team within a wider Global Specialties division, taking ownership of underwriting decisions, providing expertise to brokers and customers, and helping shape the ongoing development of the Surety business.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite complex UK Contract and Commercial Surety risks in line with underwriting strategy, guidelines, authority levels and pricing frameworks.
• Manage facility and bond underwriting within personal underwriting authority; prepare referrals and recommendations for approval where outside authority.
• Participate in credit committee activity, including approval of larger facilities/bonds alongside other committee members.
• Negotiate bond wordings, indemnities and related recourse documentation for new and existing facilities, liaising with external legal advisers and clients.
• Act as a technical referral point for colleagues on bond enquiries and documentation queries.
• Build and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities through broker relationships, client engagement, and internal stakeholder collaboration/cross-sell.
• Support the identification and development of new surety products and target market segments.
• Drive/implement operational and process improvements within the Surety function.

Required experience / skills

• Proven underwriting experience in UK Contract and Commercial Surety.
• Strong financial analysis capability, including interpreting financial statements to assess credit quality.
• Working knowledge of indemnity structures and how they apply in practice.
• Strong understanding of surety bond wordings and associated documentation.
• Collaborative mindset; confident working across underwriting, distribution and internal stakeholder groups.

• An established broker / market network within the UK Surety market.
