Low-code, high impact.

Approvals, onboarding, case management, customer records and reporting: behind many of the processes UK organisations rely on every day sits a Power App, an automated flow or a Dynamics 365 system. Power Platform professionals build, connect and govern those solutions. As organisations bring AI into the Microsoft tools they already use, experienced Power Platform and Dynamics 365 specialists are central to making that technology work for the business.

We work with start-ups setting up their first business systems, scale-ups replacing manual processes as they grow, and fintechs, public bodies and charities that need well-governed solutions in regulated environments, introducing Power Platform professionals to teams where their work changes how organisations operate.

Starting your MLOPs career

Many people come into Power Platform through less traditional routes. Business analysts, project coordinators, and colleagues in finance or operations who start automating their own manual processes often find it a natural next step. Others join through apprenticeships, university placements or early-careers programmes at Microsoft partners, and some move across from software development.

If you’re starting out, Power Apps and Power Automate are a good place to begin. Build a few small canvas apps and flows that solve a real problem, then add Power BI if reporting interests you. Dataverse and Dynamics 365 come next, as they show how data is structured beneath the apps you build. Employers hiring for a first role want to see that you can finish something, so a couple of genuine projects, even personal ones, make a strong case alongside a foundational certification.

Power Apps and Power Automate are the foundation for most Power Platform roles.

Alongside them, these skills matter most early on:

  • Power Apps: building canvas and model-driven apps
  • Power Automate: automating processes with cloud flows, and an introduction to desktop flows
  • Power BI: creating reports and dashboards, with some data modelling
  • Dataverse: understanding how data is stored and structured across the platform
  • Microsoft 365 and SharePoint: working with the tools many solutions connect to
  • SQL basics: querying and understanding data
  • Business process mapping: understanding how a process works before building anything
  • Communication: working with colleagues across the business to understand what they need

As your career develops, Dynamics 365, Copilot Studio, Azure, custom connectors and coding skills such as C# or JavaScript become increasingly valuable. Early on, curiosity about how the business works is a real strength.

Microsoft’s certifications give a clear structure for learning the platform. The Power Platform Fundamentals certification is a common starting point for anyone new to the tools. From there, the path depends on your direction: developer certifications for those leaning technical, Power BI certifications for reporting and analytics, and Dynamics 365 certifications for those focusing on specific business applications. Solution architect certifications sit at the most senior end.

Microsoft is updating several certifications to reflect AI and Copilot capabilities, so it’s worth checking Microsoft Learn for the latest options before you book an exam. Certifications work best alongside hands-on experience. A project you can talk through in detail often carries the most weight with employers.

Power Platform pay in the UK grows with experience and specialism. Early-career roles build the foundations. As professionals take on Dynamics 365, more complex integrations, Copilot Studio and AI work, solution design and leadership, earning potential increases. Coding skills such as C# and JavaScript can also broaden the roles open to you as your career develops.

Advancing your Power Platform career

Progression in Power Platform often comes through breadth as much as depth. Experienced professionals who add another part of the Microsoft stack, such as Dynamics 365, Azure or Copilot Studio, tend to open the widest range of senior roles.

  • Senior Power Platform Developer or Consultant: leading complex solutions, understanding business processes deeply and knowing when a problem needs custom code
  • Technical Consultant: extending the platform with integrations, custom connectors and code
  • Solution Architect: designing how Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Dataverse and Azure fit together across an organisation
  • Centre of Excellence Lead: setting governance, standards and best practice for the platform
  • Practice Lead or Head of Business Applications: leading teams, shaping strategy and owning client or stakeholder relationships

At senior level, business understanding becomes as important as technical skill: shaping requirements, challenging approaches constructively and designing solutions that last. Mentoring and learning from others can be especially valuable for professionals who moved in from business analysis or project roles. We can help you understand where your experience is most valued.

Power Platform is one of the places where AI is most visible in everyday work. Copilot is now built directly into Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI, helping professionals generate apps, flows and reports more quickly. Copilot Studio and AI Builder also let teams create AI agents and AI-powered features on top of the platform.

That speed puts more emphasis on the expertise around the build. Someone still needs to understand the business requirement, design the Dataverse security model, govern how AI is used and take responsibility when an AI-generated solution behaves unexpectedly. In financial services, the public sector and other regulated environments, that governance carries weight.

Our view is that AI is turning Power Platform professionals into AI implementers inside the business. Experienced professionals who combine platform depth with Copilot Studio and AI governance experience are well placed for the roles emerging around it.

Power Platform and Dynamics 365 are used across a wide range of UK organisations:

  • Start-ups and scale-ups: building business systems and automating processes as teams grow
  • Financial and professional services: customer relationship management and process automation, often on Dynamics 365
  • Public sector: case management, service delivery and automation, with some roles requiring security clearance
  • Housing associations, charities and higher education: resident, case and student management, often built on Dynamics 365 and Power Platform
  • Manufacturing and operations-led businesses: reporting and workflow automation, sometimes alongside long-standing ERP systems
  • Microsoft partners and consultancies: delivering projects across multiple clients and sectors

Some of the most rewarding roles sit with organisations treating Power Platform as core infrastructure, with clear governance, a defined environment strategy and investment in Copilot Studio. We can help you understand how teams differ in platform maturity and scope.

For many experienced professionals, contracting is a natural fit. Power Platform and Dynamics 365 work is often project-based, from implementations and migrations to automation programmes. Our 2026 Big Tech Employment Survey found ERP & CRM, the specialism that includes Power Platform and Dynamics 365, to be the most contract-dependent specialism in the survey, with 39% of respondents working on a contract basis. It also recorded the highest average day rate of any specialism, at £575.

Contracting can offer variety, exposure to different organisations and the chance to build specialist expertise quickly. It also means managing your own pipeline of work, and understanding how IR35 status affects your take-home pay. We can help you weigh up contract and permanent options based on your experience and goals.

The two are closely connected, as Dynamics 365 is built on the same underlying platform and data as Power Platform, so many professionals work across both. Power Platform roles tend to focus on building custom apps, automations and reports to solve specific business problems. Dynamics 365 roles centre on configuring and extending established business applications, such as sales, customer service or finance, often as part of larger implementation projects.

For experienced professionals, adding Dynamics 365 knowledge to Power Platform skills, or the other way round, often broadens the roles open to you. The right focus depends on whether you enjoy building flexible solutions from scratch, or shaping how large business applications support an organisation’s core processes.
