We are thrilled to be partnering with a university who is in the market for a Statutory returns Product Owner to lead their transformation project on the upcoming changes to HESA Data Futures and systems changes to embed those changes.

Summary of the role:

Role: Student Data Statutory Returns Product Owner

Employment Type: 12 Months FTC initially, scope for the role to be permanent

Location: Once a month onsite presence to Leeds is essential

Salary: £46,974 - £56,021

Benefits: - 19.3% employer contribution and 8.5% employee + 26 days annual leave + University's closure days + public holidays totaling 42 days

What we need to see as essential:

  • Strong ability to interpret complex data regulations and compliance(understanding sensitivity to student data & the GDPR legislations around that)
  • Takes a self-starter approach to change management to bring a cross collaboration across relevant departments (Project Coordination)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills (influencing at all levels)

The role:

The university is in a great position with Data Futures return with a strong, motivated team responsible for the end to end management of statutory reporting and looking for someone to come in and deliver a minimal viable product for future processes change requirements relating to data futures. This would be a great opportunity for the post holder to come in and oversee the current returns process as well as help the university produce a technical solution through continuous improvement / transformation to manage and utilise student data ensuring that it is consistent for any data used for internal planning rounds. As well as this they will have the chance to drive best practice with Data Futures in relation to student data quality/processing; allowing the post holder to develop and improve University´s information management capabilities.

Reporting to the Head of Policy and Regulations and working with the statutory returns manager, colleagues in IT to support and develop technical capabilities, being an interface between the technical team and the users. This will be mainly require the post holder to inform and communicate changes/requirements from the relevant data owners across the organisation. But to also gain agreements from It services to changes to the underlying systems making sure changes are not impacting the existing processes.

They will have strong stakeholders' management skill sets, because this is a role that will give you autonomy to make an impact how data is processed but also how you contribute to your own professional development. One of the key working streams the post holder will be involved with is the empowerment of data owners within the organisation on data quality, supporting the Head of Policy and Regulation in taking the next steps towards accountability supporting relevant teams to drive that. But to also improve data literacy and being a data quality champion allowing them to work across functional areas to shape and make a difference on student experience.

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge or experience of statutory returns (HESA DF, HESES, ITT, Graduate Outcomes, etc)
  • Project management certification
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner student records management system
  • Experience with SQL scripting and Data Visual platforms (PowerBI, Tableau, QlikView, etc)
  • Expertise with software development lifecycle e.g Azure Dev Ops
